After earning his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law, Fernando Bustos served as briefing attorney to the Honorable Sam R. Cummings, U.S. District Court Judge, Northern District of Texas, Lubbock Division from 1997 to 1999. He then spent several years sharpening his skills as a partner with one of the oldest and largest law firms in Lubbock before founding the Bustos Law Firm, P.C. From 2000 through 2013, he taught Civil Rights Law and Interviewing, Counseling & Negotiation as an adjunct professor at Texas Tech University School of Law.

Dustin Slade is licensed to practice law in Texas and New Mexico, and resides in San Juan County, New Mexico. Dustin is a 2005 summa cum laude graduate of Brigham Young University. As a BYU student, he interned in the nominations unit of the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary, where he researched nomination issues, managed files of all Article III nominees, and did some speech writing for the Committee Chairman. At BYU, Dustin also did research in the Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy, appurtenant to which organization he later served as Research Faculty in the Political Science Department at BYU. Dustin graduated in May of 2010 from Harvard Law School, where he served as Senior Editor for the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy. While at Harvard, Dustin was also awarded a Seevak Fellowship in which he studied election law and redistricting issues. Also while in law school, he completed a study abroad in Santiago, Chile at La Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he studied Chile's new Ministerio Publico. Dustin served on the board of directors for the Lubbock Boys and Girls Club while he was in Lubbock.

D. K. Trotter is a fifth generation Texan, and was born and raised in the Lubbock area. While Ms. Trotter graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2017, she has worked in the legal field for many years in litigation and general practice areas with large and small firms in Lubbock, including McCleskey, Harriger, Brazill & Graf, LLP; Murchison, Hund & Harriger, LLP; Hund & Harriger, LLP; Field, Manning, Stone, Hawthorne & Aycock, LLP; and the Bustos Law Firm, P.C.

During her time at Texas Tech University School of Law, Ms. Trotter received distinction awards in Torts and Legal Research; she was a writer for the Texas Bank Lawyer, received a Pro Bono Honors Award, and participated in the Advanced Alternative Dispute Resolution Clinic. Ms. Trotter has volunteered with many area organizations, including Girls Scouts of the USA, Lubbock Art Association, West Texas Paralegal Association, the Paralegal Division of the State Bar of Texas, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and the Red Mass Committee. Ms. Trotter has served on the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund Committee based in Washington, D.C., and is the Chair of The Women’s Memorial – NHFFLSA (Notable Historic Female Figures from Lubbock and the Surrounding Area). She is a member of The Sedona Conference, the Lubbock Women’s Club, Austin’s Old 300, the Texas State Genealogical Society, Canyon United Methodist Church, and she has been selected to participate in the 2018 Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Leadership Lubbock program.

Ms. Trotter is qualified to serve as a neutral third party under the Texas Civil Practices and Remedies Code, having completed 40-hours of basic mediation training and 24-hours of family mediation training. Ms. Trotter’s practice areas include Estate Planning & Probate, Real Estate, Trust, and Elder Law; Business Law and Agriculture Law, including transition planning; and Information and Knowledge Management, Security, and Research, including eDiscovery and Forensic Genealogy. In addition to her Juris Doctor, Ms. Trotter holds a Master’s Degree in Information Science from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor of Science in Occupation Education Degree from Wayland Baptist University.

While in law school, Matt Zimmerman clerked for the Bustos Law Firm, actively participated in his community, and participated in the Regional Externship Program with the Texas Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Dallas, Texas. As an intern for the Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals, Dallas, Texas, he worked side-by-side with the Justices of that court, where he polished his legal analysis and increased his knowledge of law beyond that of a recent graduate. Matt Zimmerman is currently participating in the 2017 Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Leadership Lubbock Program.
